In this story I will be making a case for why we need to get rid of BTC trading pairs, and why the crypto-space can not move forward until this process is well underway. The existence of BTC (and ETH) trading pairs on exchanges dramatically distorts the market valuation of every other “alt-coin” and fundamentally undermines the veracity and organic growth of crypto assets.

I expect enormous and well-motivated pushback against this idea and the (frankly unassailable) logic and reasoning behind the desirability of such a move; I will be pre-responding to what I assume will be the most common…

There was a time when I was in love with Technology. A time when I didn’t just believe it could be used to fix a whole range of societal problems, but was absolutely certain this was in fact inevitable. My reasoning went something along the lines of taking it as given that people are at heart irrational beings that like, believe and want things for reasons that have little to do with logical deduction or facts, but rather with how things feel, the societal benefits they confer (status, respect, dignity) and that those are the things that really matter.

We will never create a sentient or self-aware and/or conscious Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and survive the existence of such a creation. There is no chance. Well — at least not if we want it to be fully rational and devoid of the kinds of biases that humans have. You know, those annoying “pre-programmed” assumptions that already today cause major problems with various “dumb” AI systems.

I will prove to you here exactly why this is so. This is not a question or a theory — it’s pretty much an inevitability. And I am not going to discuss any technical…

Fundamental Differences between humans and artificially intelligent agents

This is a story about what kind of human traits sentient or self-aware machines cannot, should not or ought not to have. Many of the behavioral traits that humans routinely display are the product of various biases present in all of us, and thus only partially rational. At the same time, many of the actions we execute and methods we apply, are the result of us being a biological product of evolution. They make sense if you are a being among threats and dangers, incessantly scanning the world around trying to identify…

So one of my friends on Facebook posted another dubious article today; this time, it was about the alleged neuro-toxicity of Fluoride. The ‘source’ was quite poorly written, as usual, low on detail and high on emotive weasel-words; it made various dubious claims and even had the audacity to suggest you may want to make your own tooth paste!

As is often the case, it turned out that one simple Google search on this topic quickly revealed the entire contents of the aforementioned article to be devoid of truth, to put it mildly. As it happens, I know the person…

Interested in what makes humans tick, and why. I tend to question everything, eventually. Given enough time interesting insights are inevitable. Enjoy:) WD
